Zacharia Grierson, trading as AccessMyPhone, is responsible for your personal data under UK data protection law (the “controller”). We collect only what we need to check and fix your phone, and we don’t sell it to anyone.

What we collect

  • Your phone’s details. The IMEI or serial number you enter, and the results of looking it up.
  • Your contact details. Your email address and, if you give it, your name.
  • Payment details. Stripe takes your card payment. We never see or store your full card number. We keep Stripe’s references for your payments so that we can match and refund them. Your card is not saved for later payments.
  • Proof of ownership. For some fixes, the receipt and, sometimes, the photo ID you upload.
  • Your signed agreement. Your signature on the service agreement, when you signed it, and the IP address and browser you signed from.
  • Messages. What you send us through the help pages or by email, and any files you attach.
  • How you use the site. Your IP address, your device and browser, roughly where you are (worked out from your IP address) and the pages you visit. Some of this comes from cookies, and the optional ones are set only if you agree. Our cookie policy explains them.

Why we use it

  • To do what you’ve asked. Running your diagnosis, carrying out a fix, sending your results and updates, and looking after your account and store credit. The legal basis is that we need it to deliver the service you’ve bought.
  • To keep records the law requires. Payment and tax records, for example.
  • To protect you and us. Checking that a phone is yours before we work on it, preventing fraud, and dealing with disputes. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in not helping with lost or stolen phones and in defending our payments.
  • To remind you about an unfinished checkout. If you start paying and don’t finish, we may email you up to twice. Every one of those emails has a link to stop them. This is also based on our legitimate interests.
  • To understand how the site is used, and which of our adverts help people find us. We do this only if you accept analytics cookies, and you can change your mind.

Who else handles it

Only companies that help us run the service, and only as much as each one needs:

  • Stripe processes payments.
  • Laravel Cloud hosts the site and its database in London.
  • Resend sends our emails.
  • The lookup services we query for your diagnosis receive the IMEI or serial number, nothing else about you.
  • The partners who carry out fixes receive the phone’s details and, where a manufacturer needs them, your proof of ownership.
  • PostHog (hosted in the EU) and Google receive analytics and advertising data, if you accept those cookies.
  • Trustpilot receives your name, email address and order reference after your diagnosis, so it can invite you to review us. You don’t have to, and you can ignore or unsubscribe from its emails.

We’ll also share information where the law requires it, or with the police or a card issuer where we believe a phone has been stolen or a payment was fraudulent.

Data sent abroad

Some of these companies process data outside the UK, for example in the United States. Where they do, the transfer is protected by safeguards UK law recognises, such as the UK’s international data transfer agreement or standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

  • Orders and payments: six years, because tax law requires it.
  • Proof of ownership: for as long as the order, and any dispute about it, needs. Ask us and we’ll delete it sooner where the law allows.
  • Your account and store credit: until you ask us to close the account, apart from the records we have to keep.
  • Messages to us: for as long as we need them to help you, and no more than six years.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, or send it to you in a form you can take elsewhere. You can object to us using it for our legitimate interests, and withdraw any consent you’ve given. Email us and we’ll reply within a month.

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, please tell us. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or to the data protection regulator where you live.

Children

Our services aren’t meant for anyone under 16.
